After some articles were published saying that Portugal was one of the countries applying to organise next year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which was 'won' by Cyprus, the head of the Portuguese delegation told oikotimes.com this afternoon that RTP ''didn’t apply to organise the contest, so those articles are not correct''.
José Poiares confessed that he was ''surprised'' with some newspaper and website articles because ''we (RTP) never officially applied to host the event. The only thing we did was to ask the EBU's supervisor, Mister Svante Stockselius, the conditions to host the contest, just as many other countries did it too. Nothing more!'
And would RTP consider hosting Junior Eurovision in Portugal? José Poiares likes the idea, but said ''it’s not yet known if we'll apply to host it next year or not''.
Anabela, Portuguese entry in 1993 Eurovision Song Contest (she reached the 10th place in Millstreet) was invited by RTP to select the participating songs in the Portuguese national selection to Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Besides the Eurostar the two other jury members is the composer and musical producer Ramon Gallarza and RTP's head of delegation José Poiares.
As we reported earlier, till August 31 RTP is receiving songs in CD and DVD from all the Portuguese interested kids. Then, the nominated jury will select 12 songs to join a national festival held in the first weekend of October, live from Tivoli Theatre, the same venue of last year’s edition. The winner song will be selected by televote system. Anabela is presently performing the head role of “The Sound of Music” in Lisbon. She also performing live her last album “Encontro”.
