Junior 2006: 15 countries signed up, UK pulls out Crying or Very sad

15 countries will take part in the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which wil take place in Bucharest, Romania. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that. The United Kingdom pulls out, France and Germany do not take part again. This leaves Spain as the only 'Big4' country to take part.

Ukraine and Portugal take part for the first time. As announced earlier, the Nordic countries will not take part, with the exception of Sweden where TV4 will take over the competition, and will focuss on the pan-Nordic Junior Grand Prix.

* Belgium, VRT
* Croatia, HRT
* Cyprus, CBC
* FYR Macedonia, MKRTV
* Greece, ERT
* Malta, PBS
* The Netherlands, AVRO
* Portugal, RTP
* Romania (host broadcaster), TVR
* Russia, RTR
* Serbia & Montenegro, RTS/RTCG
* Spain, RTVE
* Sweden, TV4
* Ukraine, NTU

Absolutely it's a BIIIIG pity that we won't see UK...

It was one of the best countries..

well, actually, i'm not that upset that the uk pulls out, i mean, cory and tom were good, but they seemed to put less and less effort into the national finals....15 is good i think, just to bad norway and danmark don't participate. i will miss them more than the uk.

Malta is a bit English speaking! 15 yes I know that 20 was only a dream but some weeks ago I didn`t think it should be any final at all. So I am happy! Latvia pull out?? Shocked But they had started?? I don`t think it is that bad about the UK it was an ok country but not that important. I can`t wait to December and welcome to Portugal and Ukraine!! Very Happy

I believe latvia never had a lot of participants, didn't they only have 27 entries or so last year? maybe there's just nothing good

Yeah agree but if Spain, Netherland and Belgium poll out I don`t think I will watch it because then it is Junior East Song Contest and not Eurovision.

haha, that's true.
there are 7 countries from East and 5 from South Europe; only two from the West and one from the North this time.

7 countries? you counted croatia, serbia and macedonia as east european too? they are more 'balkan' countries in my opinion

belarus, russia, ukraine and maybe romania are east european, but latvia was too, so it stays the same
