Cyprus: submission deadline up to August 18; selection in September by jury and televoting
Fotis Konstantopoulos reporting from Athens (Greece)

The Cypriot broadcaster (CyBC) announced the rules for the 2006 Junior Eurovision selection. Last year Cypriot broadcaster suffered from domestic reactions regarding the song which has been found to be a copy of an already existing song. Cypriot broadcaster forced to withdraw and decided to fully stay out of the contest instead of submitting the runner up song. Although withdrawn CyBC participated in the televoting since the broadcaster is a member of EBU and had paid the fee to the contest. This year CyBC is announcing strict and clear rules for the Junior Eurovision selection.

The submission deadline has been set at the lastest August 18
The selection of the ten songs will take place on September 4 and 5
The national selection will take place sometime in September
The selection will be made by 60% televoting and 40% jury

This year the broadcaster makes clear that team spirit should apply among all parents and participants. It is made clear that by participating in the contest you can easily win the selection but you can easily loose. The parents will not be at the same place with the children during the show. It is clear also that disqualification rules are now tight: parents are not allowed to dicsuss the contest in front of the children. At the end of the rules CyBC declares that it's up to the broadcaster to decide if finally the country will participate or not in the 2006 Junior Eurovision.
