Belgium: Eén renames the national selection into 'Junior Eurosong'
The Flemish preselection for the Junior ESC will be renamed from Eurosong for Kids to Junior Eurosong. VRT-spokesperson Björn Verdoodt confirmed the news exclusively to eurosong.be. The programm will get a new concept and a new presenter. Eurosong.be discovered that Eén has registrated the name junioreurosong.be on the internet and asked the Flemish broadcaster that this means they have chosen a new title for Eurosong for Kids. 'We have indeed registered this name because Junior Eurosong will become the new programm title of Eurosong for Kids', VRT spokesperson Björn Verdoodt told eurosong.be.
The reason for the change of name has to do with the new rule that only children of the age between 10 and 15 can participate in the Junior ESC. 'You can hardly call youngsters from 10 years old 'kids'', Björn Verdoodt says. 'The name Junior Eurosong is a logical one. Eurosong is the title of the Flemish preselection of the Eurovision Songcontest, so we've chosen Junior Eurosong for the preselection of the Junior ESC.' What's in a name. Or will there be other changes too? 'We are working at a new concept. At this moment we are finetuning the concept. We will also choose a new presenter. Ilse Van Hoecke will host a new programm in September and can hardly combine this with Junior Eurosong', Björn Verdoodt said to eurosong.be.
10.08.07 . VRT keeps supporting Junior Eurovision Song Contest
With Spain withdrawing, the last of four big financial contributors disappears from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. According to Spanish broadcaster TVE, the contest creates stereotypes they don't share. Flemish broadcaster VRT is surprised about the Spanish statement and will keep supporting the festival.
"VRT keeps supporting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest," says VRT press officer Björn Verdoodt in Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. "We do the utmost to make it a big scouts camp for the children." An official confirmation of the Spanish withdrawal on behalf of th European Broadcasting Union has not been released yet. "We have not been officially informed yet," Björn Verdoodt continues. "But I find the Spanish arguments strange. They have also got the stereotypes up and running."
Just like Spain, Flemish broadcaster VRT has been taking part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since the very first edition of the festival. VRT organized the contest in Hasselt in 2005 together with Belgium's French-speaking broadcaster RTBF. With Spain withdrawing, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest lost its fourth and last big financial contributor. France and the United Kingdom earlier withdrew from the contest. Germany never supported, nor entered the contest.
